Hammond is finally making good on his episode 1 promise of retiring. But something just isn't sitting right with the members of SG1, and they begin to try to find out what's really going on. [3:17] Hammond of Texas Hey, here we go See what his name tag says now, It's about the best way you can possibly start an episode We're trying to get clear to come through Open the irons, Shut the blast doors. They're all just standing there. They exist in the gate room to return fire should something happen. Dude, that gate room has to be so reinforced. They have blast doors that come down in front of that glass. Why are they not shutting the blast doors? You better duck because those things are going to hit you. In the face if you're standing there turning around looking at it. I'm sorry, Jeff. As a long-time Stargate watcher, I have so many problems with how that sequence just went down. I'm not a long-time watcher, and I have problems. On the way back to the gate, considering the SGC was taking fire, I'm kind of glad you waited as long as you did, sir. Lots of fire. Strictly speaking, if I'd followed procedure, you'd all be dead right now. Sir, every time we go through the Stargate, it's a calculated risk. I realize that, Major. But frankly, I'm getting tired of sending good people out there, never knowing if they're going to come back. I've had enough. I'm sorry, sir. What are you saying? I wanted you all to be the first to know.
[4:43] Did he get a new job like the actor or something? Is Don Davis like done? That's BS. I mean, Don Davis is not the youngest of all folks. I know he looks really good in this in the show. He's really not the youngest of all folks. And I do feel like there were some health problems there. I could be wrong. I do know that in real life he has since passed. Oh, really? Yeah, it was after the show was done. But yeah, I fear is this is like, hey, we're coming back from a break. Davis, can you hit us with one more episode? We'll we'll write you out. We'll do whatever and that but my but what I think this is is like He's owning that. He's not following procedure and stuff So either he got busted and they're letting him go with dignity or there's some Play here. There's what chicanery a play here But do you really think I believe you're quitting because we ran into a little trouble out there? Hell we've been presumed dead.
[5:35] Before you've been i don't have to explain myself to you colonel when i took over this command stargate was inactive this was supposed to be a quick and easy assignment on my way to retiring general that i was retired some things are worth changing your plan do you do you remember that him getting pulled out of retirement no no that that general hammond.
[5:57] He he told when he and jack first met back in children of the gods it's probably because i know where it goes it sticks out in my mind uh he talks about jack being retired and you know all that kind of stuff and hammond says me i'm on my last tour i remember that yeah but i think i'm on my last tour this is i think there's a big difference between my last tour and hey this is supposed to be a cush easy thing you know for me to sail out because they were gonna they were trying to shut the whole thing down like they were just trying to i guess yeah whatever like he was on his way out and when this whole thing blew up he stayed so i guess that's true yeah i forgot that piece yeah i guess how could you not understand foreshadowing jeff it was on the tv it was right there right clear it's like i'm not even trying we love you guys it's it's all in good fun it really is it's still just funny i love it i've had enough i'm leaning towards chicanery he's like hiding something this isn't this is not how this isn't hammond let me just say it's been a pleasure serving with all of you like this is how you leave when your partner tells you you need to spend more time at home with me and it's time for you to retire i like my job well do you like me be the same.
[7:15] Okay on chulak when a great warrior retires from the field of battle it is customary to sing a song of lament are we gonna get a tilk song do it fortunately we are not on chulak, i'm let down you were so hoping i i was take care of yourself i was doing the mental math i'm like can chris judge sing we're gonna find out my name is major general bower oh i'll be your new commanding officer, I just have to say I look forward to working with all of them. I always felt like this should have been Franklin Gelley. Gelley, however you say it. Is he Major General Jack Bauer?
[7:52] He's going to be here for about 24 hours. Quadrant, it is. When you spend that much time at the Pentagon, it's easy to become a bureaucrat. Or a politician. Depends on where your interests lie. General. At ease, Major Clark, at ease. I've been going over your research into NACWADAL reactors. [9:08] I'm going to be, I'm not going to answer this the way you thought I was going to answer it. So high level, it sucks. You don't do it, you know, whatever, blah, blah, blah. Also, if you're the shakeup person to come in and shake up an operation, that's how you do it. You rip off the bandaid. That's not, that's not how you lead with kindness. It's not how you lead with empathy. Sure. It would be cool to be like, let's sit down. Let me talk about these things, whatever. Also, this is a job. And at some point you just go in and say, hi, uh, I'm major general Jack Bauer and you're working over here now. No need for us to get to know each other at all. Other than I have two stars here, you have none. And I'm telling you what you're doing. It's not the nice way to do it, but it totally tracks and makes sense with the setting and context. I would quit. If you came in and did that to me, I would quit. If, if I was Daniel. Yes. If I'm Sam. Well, you can't. You're that's, that's the job. Yeah.
[9:58] Saying also he's not necessarily coming in to shake stuff up unless he is like he's going to blow stuff because general hammond's gone like it's not like the sgc isn't ran okay like well i disagree i think that the gov what we've heard is the beer the bureaucrats don't think it's run well they think it's a money suck there was senator um kinsey kinsey senator kinsey right And we learned there's like a $7 billion thing. Jellico came in kind of saying the same stuff. So it's like, I, I, I think outside of the viewership of this show, it's just a money suck. And so, Hey, here's a way we can get a return on our investment. And he does have a really important point. We have been exposed to some incredible dangers. Yeah.
